South Indian Classical Saxophonist Dr. Sumanth Swaminathan in ConcertDr. Sumanth Swaminathan started training in vocal Carnatic Music at the age of 8 from Sri T.N. Bala in the Philadelphia area. At the age of 14, he was initiated into Carnatic music on the saxophone during a visit by Padmashri Dr. Kadri Gopalnath. Sumanth subsequently trained under the renowned saxophone master during his summer visits to India, while continuing to study under Sri T.N. Bala. Sumanth has performed with Dr. Gopalnath in concerts and festivals across the world. Notable occasions include the Silver Jubilee celebrations of CMANA in 2002, and the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia in 2003. For the past five years, Sumanth has been a highly sought after solo artist for Kutcheris, wedding concerts, and dance productions across the United States. Sumanth has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D in applied mathematics. He works as a technology associate for W.L. Gore and teaches carnatic saxophone in the greater Philadelphia area.
